Sometimes, I doubt or forget that God is good. My mind can quickly wander down a steep, dark path, where I start believing that certain areas of my life are lacking or that others have it better than I do. Maybe I feel slighted, overlooked, or that I don’t matter. Have you ever felt something similar?
When I’m in that space, I know I need to catch myself and stop allowing doubts and fears to rule my heart and mind. I need to squash the lies the enemy is trying to plant in me. When I’m doubting God and His goodness, I know it’s time to turn to my Bible and let it fill my mind with His truth. Verses like these remind me of who he is and his character:
Psalm 145:8-9 – "The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. The Lord is good to all; He has compassion on all He has made."
Psalm 145:15 – "The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food at the proper time."
Psalm 145:18- “The Lord is near to all who call on him”
Psalm 109:21- “But you, LORD, my Lord! ---act on my behalf for the sake of your name; deliver me because your faithful love is so good;”
Nahum 1:7 – "The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; He knows those who take refuge in Him."
Deuteronomy 10:17 – "For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes."
It is these kinds of verses I need to keep close and pull out when I need reminding of how good He is and how great His love is for me and you. I need to plant them deeply in my heart and soul so that on days when I doubt ---I can remind myself to remember what I know deep down.
The story of the poor widow in 2 Kings 4 recently encouraged me when I was in a place of doubting the Lord’s goodness and provision. The widow believed she had nothing of value. But when Elisha asked what she had, she responded, “just a little oil.” From that small amount, the Lord worked in a way that only He could. He multiplied it, allowing her to sell the oil, pay off her debts, and provide for her family. How amazing and generous is that? The Lord surely displayed his faithfulness and goodness to her and He can do the same for you and me.
When I feel like I have nothing, He can still make a way and provide for all my needs. My job is to offer myself to Him, obey, and trust Him to work.
Let’s keep our favorite Bible verses close by to remind us of His goodness and great love for us. Let’s trust Him to do more than we can ask or imagine! (Ephesians 3:20)
